The athletic community should start a boycott of Active.com and any races that use them. Their percentage based service charges are an unnecessary burden especially for the younger age groups many of which are students. Active.com has no competition which allows them to gouge us. You can go onto their website and make your voice heard.

For those that make it to Trumbull on Sunday there will be a slightly tweaked course for the Great Pumpkin 4 mile run- Since the front of Trumbull High School is under construction we cannot run around it at the finish as we have the last 18 years. Evening Track workouts

As it is getting darker and I have a job, I'm looking for a place to do evening track workouts during the week. I'm in New Haven and used to go to Yale as the football would practice in the evening and have the lights on, but starting this year they are doing morning practice and so the track is in the dark in the evening.

Any suggestions?

trouble breathing

I have a female athlete on the xc team that I coach that gets a cramp in her diaphragm when running. It continues to cramp up and then she has trouble breathing and looks to be in pain. It only happens in races and on hard running days. Regular running there are no problems with her breathing at all. Any thoughts on how I can help her fix this problem would be appreciated. Thanks

Looks like a near record crowd for the MADD Dash on Sat morning at 9am from Short Beach, Stratford. Over 350 pre registered and usually about 150 on race day (last 3 yrs ave) means that the record of 529 in 1999 might be challenged. It's due to be hot and humid again- whatta surpise. She was racing in the area 5k's way back in the mid 90's yrs ago at the tender age of 10, 11, 12. There were many a discussion on the pros and cons of intense road running at a young age... topics like burn out, growth plates, mental fatigue, and all the rest.
